High-Level Roundtable and Book Launch: EU Climate Policy Explained Book (Maroš Šefčovič)
|Date:||16 November 2015|
|Location:||Brussels, Belgium, 18:00 - 19:00|
16 November, 2015 - IPC-Résidence Palace, 155 rue de la Loi, Brussels, BELGIUM.
The European Union has been the region of the world where the most climate policies have been implemented, and where practical policy experimentation in the field of the environment and climate change has been taking place at a rapid pace over the last 25 years. This has led to considerable success in reducing pollution, decoupling emissions from economic growth and fostering global technological leadership.
In a fascinating new book, two stars of EU climate strategy – Jos Delbeke, director-general for climate action at the European Commission, and Peter Vis, former head of cabinet to European Climate Action Commissioner Connie Hedegaard – take an insightful look at the lessons of two decades of European Union climate change fighting. What has worked? And what could help drive ambitious change at the forthcoming United Nations Council of the Parties (COP) 21 negotiations in Paris? Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President for Energy Union at the European Commission, serves as discussant and weighs in with a keynote on The Road to Paris: Lessons of EU Climate Change-Fighting Strategies.
NB: The Lisbon Council will give all book-launch participants a free copy of the book, which is published in November by Routledge. All participants are invited as well to aNetworking Cocktail which will take place immediately after the book presentation.
