It is also the opportunity for local and international economic stakeholders to develop their business networks, to get up to speed on the latest developments and to get inspired by initiatives which are already showing promise in other areas.

The Mediterranean Economic Week is conceived to enhance exchange, allowing these parties to develop their networks and, especially for companies, to generate new business opportunities, without forgetting that the events are always open to the public.

This 10th edition will take place in Marseille at the Villa Méditerranée from Wednesday the 2nd to Saturday the 5th of November 2016 with its central theme: “Digital Technology: for a Connected Mediterranean”

Digital technology is a rapidly growing sector and also a tool enhancing competitiveness and productivity in other domains. It is one of the key factors in current development, an affiliate of the future, growth accelerator. Moreover, it furthers new companies being created, and many of them are young innovative entrepreneurs in the Mediterranean (startups) who have known how to make a place for themselves in the market and have developed their solutions on a regional, or even international, level.

Digital technology plays a major role in the region of Provence Alpes-Côte d'Azur and allows to demonstrate the economic interest, the potential of commercial development and the opening into European, Mediterranean and African markets, that this area, located in the centre of streams of connectivity, has to represent for foreign investors. In the future, this sector will enable us to respond to big challenges which the Mediterranean and its governments currently face - such as lowering the rate of unemployment and inequality (especially for women) and reducing poverty.

The Mediterranean Economic Week will be the opportunity to debate digital technology and to meet its operators. This sector will be presented through three dimensions:

  • Digital technology: economic sector and service tool for other sectors

  • Digital technology: an answer to current social challenges

  • Marseille and the Mediterranean: hub of Euro-African exchanges
