International Organisation hiring Independent Media Programme Director

Summary of Position

International Organisation seeks a programme Director to manage an Independent Media programme for Syria (based in Jordan). The overarching objective of this programme is improved access for Syrians to unbiased, accurate information as a means to empower citizens, hold Syrian regime and opposition groups accountable, and counter extremist narratives, while continuing to build and support the independent media sector in Syria. The programme Director is the senior leadership position with overall responsibility for meeting programme objectives.

The position is contingent on funding.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Provide vision and strategic direction for the programme

  • Develop and implement a plan of activities to meet the following programme objectives:

  • Increase the capacity of media outlets to generate reliable, accurate, and balanced reporting on local, national, and international issues

  • Increase the capacity of media outlets to encourage inclusive and tolerant dialogue, promote coexistence, and provide alternatives to regime and violent extremist narratives

  • Maintain and build the audience share of media outlets among target communities inside Syria

  • Serve as International Organisation's primary liaison with donor, and possibly the governments of Jordan, Turkey, and Syria, and other partners as needed

  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with local, regional and international organizations active in the media sector

  • Oversee and monitor quality of organizational capacity development to local organizations

  • Ensure that donor and International Organisation reporting requirements on programme impact are met

  • Manage and mentor project staff

  • Coordinate with home office

  • Oversee financial and administrative management of the programme, ensuring budget discipline

  • Manage effective monitoring, evaluation and reporting of programme activities

  • Represent International Organisation publicly and support its organizational development
