International Organisation hiring Human Resources Consultant

Job description

As a follow-up to an Organisation-wide project to review and update job descriptions, the HR Consultant in Job Design is required to develop generic job descriptions for specific job families as well as the related job profiles and provide job design and classification services. The HR Consultant in Job Design will also serve as a classifier for International Organisation and review, classify and finalize job descriptions of encumbered posts and posts to be published as Vacancy Announcements.


  • Analyze and evaluate JDs of encumbered and vacant posts located at headquarters and in the External Offices and inform supervisor of any discrepancy identified as a result of the post review.

  • Identify common job families and develop generic job descriptions (to include minimum requirements in terms of education, experience, language skills, technical and behavioral knowledge, skills and competencies) to improve consistency across the Organization and ensure substantive accuracy; review and draft unique job descriptions as required.

  • Develop generic matrixes (to include nature and scope of work, impact of actions, supervisory controls and independence of work, work relations and supervisory responsibility) for job families identified or similar jobs within the same work unit.

  • Develop and update a library of generic job descriptions.

  • Assist in the development of job profiles, taking into account International Organisation's needs, and undertake skills gap analysis.

  • Provide guidance to managers on job design, writing job descriptions, classification and evaluation.

  • Participate in the analysis of staffing levels and make proposals for a more efficient use of resources.

To deliver on the above, the HR Consultant in Job Design is required to:

  • Perform in-depth analysis of functional responsibilities, work interrelationships and organizational congruence; conduct desk audits as required.

  • Review and redraft job descriptions ensuring accuracy in terms of technical content and grading, clarity, alignment with similar positions in WIPO, and alignment with the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) classification standards and job evaluation systems; provide evaluation reports.

  • Discuss with managers the impact of organizational and program changes that lead to the redistribution of work and modifications to the design of jobs.

  • Work closely with HR Planning Officers and remain informed of developments and ongoing activities in International Organisation's programme areas.

  • Develop an understanding of the work of International Organisation and how the substantive areas interrelate.

Contract duration: initial contract of one year, renewable.
