The Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union was established in 1994 to provide translation services for the various bodies of the European Union. It is based in Luxembourg. The Centre's workload has increased considerably since it was set up, and it now employs around 205 staff.

In order to meet the needs of the IT Department, and more specifically the Infrastructure Section, the Translation Centre is organising a selection procedure to draw up a reserve list for the recruitment of a temporary staff for the post of a Service Delivery Manager - IT Infrastructure (SDM). The SDM will be the central point of contact between the Infrastructure Section and its internal and external clients.

The SDM's job will be to monitor the Oracle and UNIX environments and oversee communication with the developers and users. The SDM will assist the Head of Section in preparing work plans.

General responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Head of Section, the post-holder's main responsibilities will be:

  • To manage dav-to-dav activities in the field of IT Infrastructure, respecting the administrative procedures in place; to ensure the contacts of the Section with other departments/sections of the Centre and with clients and other partners (in particular, European Commission);

  • To prepare and attend different committee and/or working group meetings in which the Section is involved and draft the corresponding documents (reports, minutes, presentations etc.) for these or resulting from these meetings;

  • To ensure efficient follow-up of the different activities/services managed by the Section;

  • To draft and suggest improvements to processes and procedures and to contribute to the drafting of any other documents in the field of IT infrastructure in order to ensure the smooth running of the Section. .

Specific responsibilities

Service design

  • Design, implement and monitor the smooth running of the IT infrastructure services.

  • Identify and analyse clients' requirements and develop a service which responds to these.

  • Draft the service level agreement (SLA) and the tracking indicators (security, availability, performance, ect.)

Service implementation

  • Plan the resources and measures required to implement and manage the services.

  • Draft the instructions and procedures required to deliver the services.

  • Document and monitor the environments.

Service operation

  • Integrate the environments into the monitoring service.

  • Ensure that the computer software maintenance intervals are monitored and draft technical migration plans so that each department is subject to ongoing maintenance.

  • Communicate with the developers, in particular with respect to development on Oracle, and with external partners (European Commission).

  • Facilitate the implementation of procedures for the Oracle and UNIX environments.
