EBRD contracting Principal Gender Adviser (9 month assignment)

Project Description

As part of the Gender Team, the Principal Gender Adviser (PGA) is responsible for supporting the implementation of the EBRD Strategic Gender Initiative. You will succeed through providing technical advice and support to operational teams to integrate gender considerations in EBRD investments, strategies, policy dialogue, and knowledge generation and management. The Principle Gender Adviser will support in building the institutional capacity of EBRD staff to mainstream gender in their operations and functions. 

In addition, the Principal Gender Adviser liaises with internal and external stakeholders and clients to establish partnerships and coalitions to support the effective mainstreaming of gender in the EBRD. The PGA assists the Chief Social Counsellor and the Senior Gender Adviser in strategic planning and advices the CSC on complex issues related to the mainstreaming of gender in the EBRD.


  • Oversees and coordinates the work of the Gender Team finance and contributes to the GT’s work in employment, and services

  • Identifies opportunities for integration of gender issues in EBRD projects in the pipeline (at least 20 projects reviewed a month);

  • Manages gender components and shares management of gender-focused projects with banking teams as needed (7-10 components and/or projects a year)

  • Promotes and oversees research in innovative areas for the development of operational tools for gender mainstreaming in the EBRD

  • Manages technical co-operation projects to the value of 0.75 million Euros a year

  • Manages teams of up to 5 consultants in the delivery of assignments to mainstream gender in EBRD operations

  • Provides advice, technical support and mentoring to junior members of the gender team;

  • Develops operational instruments and tools to mainstream gender in the EBRD

  • Delivers training to EBRD staff   


  • Lead and manage gender components of EBRD projects and share operational leadership of complex, high-profile gender-focused projects with banking as needed

  • Lead the development and implementation of processes to mainstream gender in different EBRD business processes

  • Lead the process of innovation and product development

  • Promote, and deliver gender related policy dialogue in strategic areas to support the implementation of the SGI and to contribute to the process of mainstreaming gender in the EBRD

  • Generate and manage gender related knowledge and research to support the mainstreaming of gender in the EBRD

  • Design and implement capacity building strategies to enhance the institutional capacity of EBRD staff to integrate gender issues into the EBRD operations

  • Support the development of internal and external partnerships and represent the gender team in internal and external meetings up to Director level

  • Support and advise senior management in strategic planning and complex issues regarding the mainstreaming of gender in EBRD.

Contract duration: 9 months.
