International Organisation hiring Spokesperson and Head of External Communication

The Organisation is the second-largest public institution in Europe, with 7 000 staff members and a self-financed annual budget of EUR 2bn – is looking for a Director External Communication and Organisation spokesperson (D 0.8) rOrganisationrting directly to the President of the Office.

D 0.8's responsibilities will range from media marketing and public relations to online communication and video production; from events such as the European Inventor Award to social media; from marketing campaigns for Organisation services and products to cultural communication; from support and co-ordination of other Organisation units also doing external communication work to branding and corporate identity. The directorate also co-ordinates and co-operates with external agencies and other partners supporting the Organisation in its communication projects. Lastly, it is also in charge maintaining and developing the Organisation's communication channels. 

This job opportunity has two main dimensions:

Head of External Communication

This involves advising the President on the definition and continual further development of the Organisation’s general external communication strategy and activities, including the following main duties:

  • Leading the definition, co ordination and delivery of the Organisation’s communication strategy (including branding and corporate identity) and its related programmes, in close consultation with the President of the Office

  • Developing, enhancing and managing a variety of external communication channels and tools for conveying Organisation news, information and messages

  • Designing and delivering high-level events and campaigns such as the European Inventor Award or the Annual Results

  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact and effectiveness of the Organisation’s external communication activities

  • Scaling up the use of social media and innovative communication tools in areas such as broadcasting, multimedia and the web

  • Co operating closely with the Director Internal Communication and Organisation senior management to ensure consistent communication programmes and activities

  • Day-to-day management of the directorate

  • Other tasks as assigned by the President.

Spokesperson of the Organisation

In this capacity the successful candidate – in close consultation with the President of the Office – will represent the Organisation in dealings with the public, especially key media and the press, in order to further improve the quality and extent of coverage, understanding and support for the work of the Organisation.

The job is based in Munich. However, it also involves maintaining close contact with communication staff at the Organisation's sites in The Hague, Vienna and Berlin, its bureau in Brussels and all its directorates-general. As spokesperson, the successful candidate will also accompany the President of the Office when he is travelling abroad.
