International Organisation hiring Trial Counsel

The Office of the Prosecutor wishes to establish a roster of suitable candidates for a P-4 Trial Counsel post as a result of this selection process, to fill any such vacant fixed-term established or general temporary assistance posts that may arise on the Trial Team or the Connected Cases/Related Cases Team.


Reporting to, and under the supervision of the Senior Trial Counsel, the Trial Counsel will be responsible for performing the following duties:

  • Suggests and contributes to the implementation of prosecutorial strategies, objectives and methods for trial;

  • Manages and supervises the preparation of components of the case;

  • Reviews the evidence collected for relevancy and makes recommendations as to its sufficiency in light of the elements of the offences charged;

  • Reviews the evidence and makes recommendations as to whether it has been collected according to applicable legal standards and will be admissible at trial;

  • Appears in court, and examines and cross-examines witnesses;

  • Presents oral arguments in pre-trial and trial proceedings as appropriate;

  • Conducts legal research and participates in the drafting of written submissions to the Pre-Trial Judge and the Trial Chamber of the Tribunal; participates in the preparation of briefs, motions, responses, and legal and factual memoranda as necessary;

  • Communicates with the Defence, the Legal Representatives for Victims, other Organs of the Tribunal and external persons and entities, as appropriate;

  • Supervises legal research and prepares draft legal opinions on substantive and procedural issues that arise in cases at the pre-trial and trial stages;

  • Undertakes field missions, as required;

  • Performs other assignments, as required.
