UNOPS recruiting ICT Associate Business Analyst (Multiple Positions)

Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Global Partner Services Office (GPSO) develops and manages a portfolio of projects and services delivered in various locations across the globe. GPSO supports partners such as the World Bank, the European Union, the Department of Peacekeeping operations, the United Nations Mine Action Service, the Global Fund, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation, amongst others. This global portfolio constitutes a substantial volume of UNOPS project delivery.

Development Group Cluster

The UNOPS Development Group Cluster is based in the North America Office and supports a diverse and complex portfolio including partners such as the United Nations Development Programme (the Bureau for Development Policy, the Human Development Report Office, and the Special Unit for South-South Cooperation), the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations Capital Development Fund, the United Nations Secretariat and a broadening community of primarily New York-based UN partners in the delivery of project management, implementation and administration services.

Job Specific

The United Nations Department of Field Support, Information and Communication Technology Division (UN DFS-ICTD) is responsible for the delivery of applications that satisfy the requirements of the Departments of Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support (DPKO/DFS) missions as well as Special Political Missions (SPMs). DFS has implemented a range of systems to address the principal requirements of peacekeeping operations and to support and enhance the process DFS undertakes. UNOPS has been request to assist in the implementation of this activity.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of a Project Manager, the Associate Business Analyst will perform the following:

Analysis and Solution Definition

  • Facilitate customer workshops/interviews to collect, analyze, validate and document business requirements, processes, business rules and workflows;

  • Reverse engineer business and functional requirements from existing applications and discover the common data model and process model that can unify closely related applications in one data and process model;

  • Conduct options analysis and recommend optimal solutions to address stakeholder requirements;

  • Perform fit-gap analysis, business process re-engineering and reverse engineering;

  • Manage the translation of business requirements into functional and technical specifications;

  • Make business-related recommendations including viability of usage of existing IT systems and/or infrastructure and industry IT standards/solutions relevant to business requirements;

  • Facilitate workshops and requirements’ sessions with developers and address any business related questions they might have.

Project Planning and Execution

  • Plan, design and execute business analysis projects  and software development projects with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in mind;

  • Continually updated project progress; 

  • Establish responsible deadlines and group work plans, manages assigned tasks within the overall project schedule;

  • Work to pro-actively mitigate project risks and issues;

  • Adhere and promote the use of project management standards and appropriate tools and templates as defined by standard project delivery methodologies based on PRINCE2;

  • Execute change management activities to ensure efficient transition into Operations and utilization of project deliverables by the business;

  • Plan, design and execute application testing, UAT and release management;

  • Perform other duties as required.

Impact of Results

The results of work of the Associate Business Analyst impact directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the Department as well as the performance of these services implemented in the DFS/DPKO field missions and headquarters. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations.
