Functional Responsibilities

The UNOPS ICT Services Team consists of a Helpdesk function and an ICT Infrastructure Team, and is overall responsible for the design, implementation, support and maintenance of the global ICT infrastructure.

As part of the ICT Infrastructure Team, the Infrastructure Specialist participates in implementation of global ICT projects as well as in the support and operation of the main data center(s), the UNOPS global network, and in the provision of support to ICT Focal Points in UNOPS Regional Offices and Operation Centers.

The Infrastructure Specialist reports to the ICT Services Manager. The incumbent is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS. UNOPS is committed to achieving a truly diverse workforce.

Below are some of the functional responsibilities:

  • Design, implementation and maintenance of all data center infrastructure components, ensuring adherence to best-practice IT/Cyber security principles and approaches

  • Participation in global ICT projects under the coordination and guidance of the ICT Project Coordinator

  • Provision of support, troubleshooting assistance, implementation guidance, and technical advice to Helpdesk and ICT Focal Point colleagues in UNOPS offices globally.

  • Monitoring of UNOPS ICT infrastructure and systems, to improve up-time, pro-active resolution of potential issues, and timely response to security and operational incidents.

  • Monitoring of UNOPS datacenter and server infrastructure to ensure systems functionality, security and availability.

  • Managing, improving, documenting, testing and implementing systems and tools such as:

  • Active Directory

  • Exchange messaging

  • Single sign-on / SAML v2.0 federation

  • Secure multi-zone hosting infrastructure

  • Enterprise backup (Commvault)

  • System Centre Configuration Manager

  • System Centre Operation Manager

  • Cisco UCS

  • EMC SAN storage

  • Liaising with vendors, consultants and partner agencies

  • Ensuring full documentation of systems, configuration and procedures to enhance knowledge-sharing/transfer within the team and throughout the ICT practice.

  • Following and evaluating emerging technologies, staying up-to-date with trends and the cyber security threat landscape, attend courses and seminars, share knowledge and experience with other ICT specialists. Evaluate systems and platforms, research best practices and contribute to ICT Service Team design solutions

  • Participate in meetings and exchange information and expertise on applications and tools with ICT staff from other UN agencies in the area.

  • Ensure management is aware of problems that are severe in nature or that are exceeding documented targets.

  • Ensure optimal quality services by maintaining ownership of all reported problems until appropriate resolution is reached and communicated to the person reporting the problem

  • Install and configure hardware & equipment, setup & maintenance of software systems; proactively identify and test regular software updates and patches to supported applications and various operating systems.

  • Ensure full compliance with information management and technology standards, guidelines and procedures of UNOPS.

  • Liaise with UN City ICT in areas of shared ICT infrastructure

  • Perform other related duties as required.
