Representation of the European Commission in the UK seeking a Social Media Manager

London, United Kingdom, 18 May 2017

Objective and context

The social media presence of the Representation of the European Commission in the UK (Representation) plays a crucial role in engaging the public on European matters. It will have a particularly important role in the period ahead defined by the UK's withdrawal from the European Union. Whilst the Representation will continue to focus its communication on young people and small and medium size enterprises, the negotiations and Brexit will have an impact on all our audiences. The Representation (http://ec.europa.eu/unitedkingdom/) is currently present in the major social media networks through the following accounts:

The Representation is seeking a service provider who can deliver a Social Media Manager to perform the services described in these specifications. The Social Media Manager will be integrated as part of the team of the Representation and is expected to be a supportive and co-operative team member, able to take initiatives and to be proactive and confident.

Subject of the contract

  • Drafting and updating of an online action plan and a weekly editorial calendar

  • Production of content for social media

  • Management of the Representation's accounts in social media

  • Social Media Coverage of Events

  • Reporting

  • Team Support on Social Media

Working days

The working days will generally be from Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day, between 9am - 6pm. However, the Contractor may be requested occasionally to cover European summits or special events occurring during weekends. It is also expected that the Contractor monitors the Representation's social media accounts with some regularity outside of working hours, and to take action if needed, at no additional cost. Some flexibility is, therefore, required from the Contractor to exchange a limited number of weekdays for weekends and after work hours. The Contractor is expected to work at the premises of the European Commission Representation (London office) and at external locations during organised events in the UK.

Working language

The working language of the service provided is English; therefore all documentation shall be delivered in English. The same applies to all the communications during the implementation of the service.
