Objectives of Media Team
ensure timely production and dissemination of high quality public information on longstanding and emerging public health issues through various platforms (print, web, broadcast, social media etc) and in multiple languages;
define and promote a consistent corporate identity for International Organisation internally and externally;
create a 21st century "culture of communications" at International Organisation by strengthening capacity at every level;
contribute to managing International Organisation's reputation by monitoring public opinion and concerns, and responding to them strategically;
lead and support the strategic communications response to public health emergencies and for the health aspects of humanitarian crises and other areas as assigned.
Description of duties
Reporting to the Coordinator, Media Team, the incumbent provides strategic advice and guidance to key staff and spokespeople within the Department on communication initiatives to ensure they are fully briefed on all relevant technical information and developments from the departments for which s/he is responsible. The incumbent proactively collaborates widely with technical staff in designated clusters and departments as the primary liaison between DCO and those units, to plan, develop and publish and disseminate communications materials and projects which maintain and raise the public profile of the respective health technical units and Departments, to keep abreast of events susceptible of being of communicated via the Department of Communications, and of providing effective on-going communications support to relevant units and departments. Advocates with and develop strong partnerships with external stakeholders including journalists and other media professionals, relevant units/Departments and organizations within the UN System, and an array of NGOs which are active in the Departments' areas of work - both within and outside the United Nations International Organisation have a stake and/or an interest in the areas of work and promotes awareness for which her/his designated departments/Clusters are responsible in order to gain support for International Organisation's work in the broader public health field, and make a general array of stakeholders and audiences that International Organisation is leading public health responses in the given areas, The incumbent will be called on to brief members of the press, often on-the-record. All other related duties as assigned.
