UN WOMEN recruiting Consultant for Organization of the International Forum on the Human Rights

Background

The overarching goal of UN Women Ukraine is to empower women and girls and ensure full enjoyment of their human rights towards a peaceful and gender equal society in Ukraine. The implementation of the UN Women Ukraine Country Strategy (2018-2022) is guided by key international gender equality and women’s human rights norms and standards. Through its normative support functions, UN Women assists Ukraine in implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, recommendations of the Universal Periodic Review, CEDAW Concluding Observations, Beijing Platform for Actions and the outcome documents of its reviews, and the UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security, among other normative frameworks. UN Women Ukraine implements projects integrating policy advice, advocacy, social mobilization and capacity building of the government, parliament, human rights institutions, women’s groups and civil society to translate global norms into national reforms, policies, legislation, plans, budgets and practices and repeal discriminatory social and legal norms.

Scope of Work/Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the UN Women Country Programme Manager, and direct supervision of the Programme Analyst of CEDAW in Action! Programme, the consultant will implement a set of tasks, including, but not limited to: 

  • Develop a concept and agenda for a 2-day forum based on the review of the recommendations of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), CEDAW, Council of Europe and OSCE Roma women human rights standards;

  • Participate in the skype with the UN Women Ukraine and the ICO Roma Women Fund Chiricli teams to plan and coordinate the assignment-related activities (prior and after the mission to Ukraine);

  • Desk review of the documents related to the Roma women human rights issues;

  • Undertake a mission to Ukraine for facilitation of a discussion during the Forum;

  • Develop a summary of group discussions and propositions to the gender-specific recommendations for revisions and amendments to the current Action Plan on the Strategy’s implementation and recommendations to a new concept of the “State Strategy for Protection and Integration in Ukrainian Society of the Roma National Minority upon 2020“.

Assignment Deliverables:

  • Draft plan of the activities and a concept paper of the forum submitted – 5 days by 13 April 2018;

  • Summary report on the implementation of the activities and developed recommendations submitted – 10 days, by 15 June 2018.
