FAO recruiting Rural Youth Migration Consultant

Under the overall supervision of Peter Wobst (ESP), Decent Rural Employment Team Leader, and Elisenda Estruch (ESP), Labour Economist, and lead technical officer of the project, the consultant will contribute to the implementation of the “Youth migration, food security and rural poverty reduction: Fostering rural diversification through enhanced youth employment and better labour mobility” project.

Specifically, the incumbent will:

  • Support the overall implementation and coordination of the project, including global components as well the country-level components in Tunisia and Ethiopia. Liaise with the professional staff and country coordinators located in the respective countries, as requested;

  • Support the lead technical officer in all phases of project management, including the organization of preparatory meetings and inception consultations, set-up and implementation of the monitoring and evaluation system, reporting, preparation of briefs, presentations and information materials as needed;

  • Support the lead technical officer in the coordination of the diagnostics on rural youth migration, including development of conceptual framework, identification of implementing partner and backstopping of the diagnostic activities;

  • Conduct a systematic literature review on seasonal migration in agriculture and employment opportunities for young people;

  • Contribute to the policy context analyses and the rapid capacity needs assessments on migration and youth;

  • Contribute to guidance materials on how to better incorporate youth employment and migration considerations into agriculture and rural development planning;

  • Support technical backstopping missions to facilitate policy dialogue and consultations and travel on behalf of FAO to Tunisia and Ethiopia as needed;

  • Support FAO’s work within the Global Migration Group;

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Duration: 7 months (renewable)
