TEAM PURPOSE: Simple, unified and inspiring communications in line with Oxfam's vision, strategic objectives and values.


  • Lead the creation, development and implementation of an organisational content strategy in line with our brand approach.

  • Oversee and approve all content produced by both internal production teams and agencies commissioned by external production partners, to ensure that it delivers a brand experience in line with organisational objectives, engaging its intended audience to inspire its intended outcomes.

  • Lead and manage the internal content production teams within Communications.

  • Work proactively across the communication team and organisation to achieve this purpose.


  • Works closely to Director of Communications as lead on all content - championing quality, ensuring experiences are on brand, maximising impact, and prioritising strategic alignment

  • Manages the internal content function, working closely with the Heads of Communications Strategy & Brand, Media & PR and Communications Engagement

  • Exercises significant independent judgement within a broad remit, based on passion for content that engages audiences

  • Leads across the organisation a strategic approach to content that puts it central to our communications in all channels and for all audiences

  • Designs and implements change as Oxfam responds to a fast-changing media landscape, and changing consumer trends and behaviours

  • Analyses, interprets and acts on complex information, often working under time pressure and financial constraints

  • Takes responsibility for 2-5 year strategic planning and budgeting, working closely with the Director of Communications and the Heads of Communications Strategy & Brand, Media & PR and Communications Engagement

  • Provides specialist communications advice at a senior level and makes decisions that can have a long-term impact on public image and potential income and impact

  • Represents organisation and team at a senior level, both internally and externally

  • Contributes to wider corporate planning and direction of organisation


  • Create and deliver an organisational content strategy and champion creativity around communications and audience engagement - bringing to life Oxfam's vision of a world free from the injustice of poverty

  • Manage and devise the content strategy ensuring the most joined up and effective way of communicating Oxfam's cause and brand to inspire support

  • Oversee all content - delegating or escalating where appropriate - from both in-house and external content production teams - ensuring quality, brand alignment, audience impact and strategic alignment

  • Inform and manage the content requirements with internal and external clients

  • Ensure consistent, inspiring output across all platforms and channels for all audiences

  • Ensure that strategies for emerging or untapped new areas of content and channels are developed and implemented

  • Ensure strong integration across the communicating divisions: fundraising, campaigning and trading

  • Maintain own and team's awareness of industry trends in creative across all channels Planning and budgeting

  • Work with insight team, and other Comms teams to ensure the delivery of simple, inspiring and unified brand communications experiences

  • Strategic budget management, ensuring that administrative and financial systems are managed effectively, and managing the Traffic & Resource Manager to ensure recharge and estimating systems run effectively

  • Ensure high quality and value for money

  • Work with strategy team and planning function to ensure optimum systems and processes in place to ensure smooth workflow for all projects

Client relationships

  • Hold relationships with key senior players across other divisions, including public fundraising, corporate fundraising, govt relations, institutional fundraising, campaigns, and the CEO to promote Oxfam's brand

  • Build effective relationships - communicate inform and influence key stakeholders so that efficient briefing, delivery practices and processes are maintained

  • Advocate and communicate the content strategy Leadership

  • Provide strong leadership and management of a large multi-functioned team, providing guidance on prioritisation, resourcing and cross-team working

  • Lead on various organisation-wide initiatives as required

  • Provide communications consultancy to governance bodies, clients, agencies as necessary

  • Lead on negotiations with other parts of business to ensure appropriate join up and resourcing at an organisation-wide level

  • Create confidence of the C&C team across the organisation and confidence of the organisation in the C&C team

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships to establish internal governance -especially of risk - through mechanisms such as the Public Engagement Committee (PEC)

  • Work in collaboration with Oxfam International and lead/support where appropriate

  • Be and active member of Communication's Leadership Team (CLT)

  • Deputise for the Director of Communications
