EBRD hiring Director of Governance and Political Affairs

The Director, Governance and Political Affairs (GPA) is one of three Directors in the Economics, Policy and Governance (EPG) group in VP Policy and Partnerships (VP3). S/he supports the MD, Economics, Policy and Governance and the Vice President in overall management and delivery of the VP’s core products and services. The Director has a highly visible external role, engaging with high level political stakeholders and senior officials from partner organisations to coordinate Bank activities and fulfil the Bank’s mission and strategic directions.
The Director supervises the work of the Political Affairs and Investment Climate and Governance teams.
The Director sets strategic direction for GPA and works with other managers in EPG to set clear goals in line with the Bank’s mandate and its annual and medium term institutional objectives. The Director has primary responsibility for GPA’s resources, business plan, budget and staff.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Supports the President, the VP Policy and Partnerships, the MD, Economics Policy and Governance and other Senior Bank officials in the conduct of high level political and policy engagements with recipient countries and the EU institutions.
Leads the preparation of analysis on political developments and Article 1 issues in recipient countries, advises Senior Management and the Board on political issues and supports political and policy engagements with a range of stakeholders as appropriate in relevant areas of expertise.
Oversees the production of political economy analyses to support the Bank’s diagnostic work, country and sector strategies, policy initiatives (including ICGI) and country level objectives and investment programmes.
Leads the Bank’s work under its Investment Climate and Governance Initiative, overseeing generation and execution of policy reform engagement programmes in selected countries, maintaining a ‘community of practice’ and knowledge platform for ICGI with experts from across the Bank, speaking in relevant international fora on the subject of anti-corruption and good governance.
Oversees coordination and management of Investment Councils and Business Ombudsmen Institutions established and supported by EBRD donor funds; chairs the cross-departmental Investment Council Steering Group.
Leads fund-raising efforts with new and existing donors to support the Bank’s policy reform engagement in the area of economic governance.
Ensures close interaction and synergies between teams in Governance and Political Affairs and other directorates in EPG as well as other departments in the Bank.
