World Bank recruiting 4 Environmental and Social Consultants

World Bank supports poverty alleviation and economic growth by promoting private sector investment in developing countries through investment and advisory services. World Bank ensures that the Corporations activities meet the requirements of its Performance Standards. It offers a wide range of expertise to help clients to identify and solve complex environmental and social problems and to find value-added opportunities in their business operations.

World Bank is looking to hire four (4) Environmental and Social Consultants to support the appraisal of new investment proposals for World Banks financial intermediary investments, the supervision of environmental and social performance of projects within the financial markets and funds sector and to provide expert advice and environmental and social risk management solutions to World Banks private sector financial markets clients to achieve positive sustainable development outcomes.

Duties and Accountabilities

Support and conduct project appraisal and supervision through initial due diligence and follow-up performance monitoring of environmental and social aspects as outlined below:

  • Conduct Social and Environmental Monitoring Report reviews

  • Conduct and assist on project appraisals

  • Assist with client follow-up for projects, including undertaking supervision missions as needed

  • Communicate with Investment and Portfolio Officers from the Financial Institutions Group and clients as needed

  • Provide ad hoc information support for team members

Support development of client solutions:

  • Develop Environmental & Social Management Systems, policies, procedures and supporting tools for FI clients

  • Propose organizational responsibilities and decision-making structures

  • Develop Environmental and Social risk management guidance in support of due diligence such as questionnaires, checklists, categorization and sector guidance

  • Conduct training and capacity development for clients on environmental and social risk management
