United Nations recruiting Partnership Platforms and Inclusive Business Consultant

The Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD) is United Nations' global organization mandated to leverage the role of the private sector in development. Established on the basis of partnership among Government of the Republic of Turkey and United Nations, the Center closely cooperates with several governments (including governments of Turkey, G20 countries, countries from Central Asia and South America), private sector, and international development partners over projects it carries out all around the world. In 2015, the Center has involved in a global partnership platform with G20 and launched a regional partnership with Central Asian countries both of which are aiming to foster inclusive business models (IBM) that engage poor people into value chains as producers, employees, consumers and entrepreneurs, with the end goal of poverty alleviation. Having these two IB platforms, IICPSD expects The Partnership Platforms and Inclusive Business Consultant to bring expertise on government relations, international trade and IBM. The Consultant will support the Center in setting up and management of multi-stakeholder partnership platforms for inclusive business models (IBM) and in other work of IICPSD under IBM thematic area. This will be done in collaboration with partnering governments including government of Turkey (especially with institutional members of IICPSD Executive Council from Turkish government) and other United Nations units (United Nations's Regional Hubs, Country Offices, Global Policy Centers, National Platforms etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the IICPSD Deputy Director, the Consultant will undertake the following tasks:

Support to setting up and management of multi-stakeholder partnership platforms for inclusive business models (IBM) (time allocated for 50% of total consultancy time)

  • Support management of the existing partnership platforms that aim to foster IBM, including platforms with G20 and Central Asian countries;

  • Support the initiation of partnership platforms on IBM in selected countries, together with relevant United Nations offices and programs, with an aim of developing inclusive value chains in priority sectors (agriculture, energy, extractive industries, etc.);

  • Lead the organization and running of Ministerial meetings, investment forums and B2B meetings in different countries;

  • Undertake moderation and facilitation of bilateral and intergovernmental consultations where necessary;

  • Ensure coordination with IICPSD Executive Council institutional members from government of Turkey with regards to multi-stakeholder platforms.

Support to other work of IICPSD in IBM thematic area (time allocated for 50% of total consultancy time)

  • Provide support to Center’s IBM related publications in terms of content;

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of research and implementation projects under “Inclusive Business” thematic area;

  • Provide technical support for content building of trainings and workshops in “Inclusive Business” thematic area;

  • Increase the capacity and awareness of stakeholders on IBM.


Multi-stakeholder Partnership Platforms

  • Quarterly progress reports on IICPSD’s existing multi-stakeholder partnership platforms’ work that include lessons learnt;

  • Moderation and facilitation of consultations/negotiations among partnering governments and United Nations country offices;

  • At least 2 multi-stakeholder platform proposals to replicate IICPSD’s regional inclusive value chain development project;

  • Quarterly follow up reports on regional and international trade in selected products;

  • Organization and running of 2 international high level events;

  • Quarterly progress reports on IBM thematic area to IICPSD Executive Council;

  • Issue notes for dissemination to current and potential stakeholders.

IICPSD’s Other Work Under IBM Thematic Area

  • Contribute to at least four knowledge products on IBM by the end of contract;

  • At least four trainings or workshops supported and/or moderated on IBM by the end of contract.
