Media and Events Internship

Establishing visibility for UNICEF in the Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and fundraising for its various activities around the world, is a major task for the Gulf Area Office. Advocacy, Communication and Partnerships are key strategies to achieve results.
The intern will have the opportunity to learn how to develop and implement the Gulf Advocacy and Communication Strategy with a focus on media relations and events management for advocacy and fundraising.
In particular, he or she will be able to better understand the effective use of media and events to reach key national, regional and international audiences, while building communications skills; as he/she will support the team to plan and manage events, build and foster relationships with Dubai- and Gulf-based journalists, and engage the media and the public on issues related to child rights.
In addition, the incumbent will support the organisation with social media and engagement of key influencers.
Purpose of the assignment
Under the supervision of the Communication Manager, the Media and Events intern will be able to learn and contribute to the strengthening of UNICEF's Advocacy and Communication Strategy in the Gulf to achieve better results for vulnerable children and women worldwide.
Support the development of regional media and influencers lists.
Research and draft a regular newsletter to generate and maintain key audiences' interest in child rights issues around the world, with focus on key UNICEF operations relevant to Gulf donors, media and public.
Support visits by high-level UNICEF officials, including facilitating media encounters, press conferences, etc.
Support the communication section in organising public events, meetings, and other public-facing initiatives, with focus on participant and media outreach.
Support operations aspects related to managing communication contractors such as event partners, photographers, videographers, translators and editors.
Assist with other tasks and activities assigned by manager.
The internship is expected to begin on 2 January 2020.
The maximum duration of the internship will be 26 weeks.
