UNICEF recruiting Youth Innovation Consultant

Global Youth Challenge

A global Youth Challenge is being developed (as a partnership between the Office of Innovation and the Adolescent Development Team). The challenge aims to engage young people around the world in the design of solutions that have the potential to scale and create significant improvements in relation to secondary-age education, skills development and training or empowerment and participation.

The contest will:

  • Be designed with and for youth

  • Proactively aim for gender equity

  • Proactively seek to engage marginalised youth, recognising the insight, experience and talent they can offer

Be based on Human Centred Design methodologies, learnings from the implementation and scale up of UPSHIFT, previous innovation challenges and insights from partners

This role will support the scale up and delivery of the Gen U Youth Challenge and UPSHIFT.

The Youth Challenge, in particular, is a new initiative and this role will require a flexible, can-do mindset, with deliverables subject to change.

Main responsibilities will be:

  • Capturing lessons learnt from the 2018/19 Youth Challenge and supporting the overall design of the 2019/20 challenge, leading on specific workstreams (to be agreed)

  • Ongoing support to remaining workstreams within the 2018/19 Youth Challenge (announcing the winners, communications support, global mentorship and incubation)

  • Developing and updating clear and accessible documentation, as needed, to support the Youth Challenge in 2019/20

  • Providing remote technical support to Country Offices and partner organizations that are hosting local challenges

  • Technical support and advice to UNICEF Country Offices on tailoring and adapting UPSHIFT for their context. This may include field visits and running train the trainer sessions

  • Updating and developing documentation relating to UPSHIFT, that will contribute to the body of knowledge available to UNICEF Country Offices

  • Providing inputs to partnership development proposals and ongoing management, as needed, relating to both UPSHIFT and the Gen U Youth Challenge

  • Working with the U-Report team to document and build upon best practices around U-Report + UPSHIFT / Gen U Youth Challenge

  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement, as required to deliver

  • Supporting other tasks relating to youth innovation projects and Generation Unlimited, as agreed

  • Please note that the support and lead responsibilities may be varied, by mutual agreement.
